As we have been nearing the launch of our brand new website, the excitement is building. Rich and Jennifer were trying to get me to write a blog about the restaurant and our adventures. I was very reluctant, but after I had told them the story of the flags which you see on the top and bottom of this article, they insisted I tell the story. The Contrade flags that adorn the restaurant are the originals from the Palio de Siena.

Sacramento Magazine – 30 Best Dishes – Meat Lover’s Lasagna

sac-mag-cover-082012-resizedIl Forno Classico

This scrumptious slab of goodness—large enough to provide you with two (or maybe even three) meals—is prepared with Italian sausage, prosciutto and ground beef. Ricotta, mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses add a creamy  component, and the richness is balanced by the judicious addition of spinach and sautéed mushrooms. Drenched in a robust marinara sauce, this lasagna is well worth the trip to Gold River. 2121 Golden Centre Lane, Gold River; (916) 858-0651; ilfornoclassico.com

Sacramento News & Review – Italian standby (Il Forno Classico)

greg-lucasBy Greg Lucas

In the Lucas family neighborhood, the go-to joint for Italian is Café Vinoteca. Among its many enjoyments are lots of garden-fresh, organic ingredients, killer pies, remarkably friendly and accommodating staff and having the owners, Jim and Jane Ison, as close friends.

Empirical data suggests Il Forno Classico provides a similar service for the denizens of Gold River off Sunrise Boulevard, a few stoplights north of Highway 50. Tucked into the Gold Centre Lane’s supermarket-anchored brick strip mall, Il Forno lets a diner know precisely what to expect with the banner across its facade: pasta, pollo, pizza, focaccia, risotto, pesce, bistecca, dolce, espresso, vino, martini, birra. Vinoteca is far less gussied-up than the busy interior of Il Forno. There’s coats of arms from Sienna, cross-thatch tan and black upholstery, similarly hued tile work. It’s festive but a bit dark, the two-person booths tight.

Golf & Lifestyle Magazine – Il Forno Classico Wine Spectator Award

ifc-golf001-612x774pxIf you love wine, great atmosphere, fun folks and fabulous food, then you’ve got to go to this Italian restaurant and wine shop. Owner Scott Litteral’s influence is felt throughout your “dining and wining” experience here. This influence extends to knowledgeable and attentive staff, menu creation and the obvious love of wine.

Very few restaurants have a wine shop adjacent to the dining room and most restaurants don’t have the selection, pricing or extensive by-theglass wine list to enjoy. II Forno carries approximately 500 wines, of which around 200 are Cabernets and 50 are offered by-the-glass!!

Wine Spectator Magazine recently awarded II Forno its Award of Excellence, which only nine other restaurants in Sacramento have achieved.
